Iowa Abortion Access Fund |
According to the Guttmacher Institute "Abortion is a common experience. At current rates, about one in three American women will have had an abortion by the time she reaches age 45."
Every year, IAAF provides loans to hundreds of Iowa women who have made the difficult decision to have an abortion. They represent all racial, ethnic, and religious backgrounds. Some are married, some are single. Their ages range from 11 to 45.
Their situations are desperate.
In Iowa, public funding is available for abortion only in cases of life endangerment, rape, incest, threat to life of the mother or severe fetal abnormality.
Among the 50 states and the District of Columbia Iowa ranked:
48th for Service Availability
10th for Laws & Policies
39th for Public Funding
39th Overall
The lifetime prevalence of physical and/or sexual abuse among women seeking abortion ranges from 31.4% to 50.8%.
